Frontline Plus for Cats
Cats are much different in terms of dogs when you're considering a flea control strategy, and they're also physiologically different. In addition, there are specific types of fleas that prefer cats as opposed to dogs. You'll want to get a flea medicine that is targeted to cats specifically, and Frontline Plus is a great option to look at. Cats also live different lives from dogs as pets, and you can do different things to reduce your flea problems when you own a cat that many dog owners can't.

Should you get it for your cat?
As far
as flea medicines go, Frontline is the biggest and most popular brand. It's
main competitors are Advantage, Program, and Revolution. You can get
information here or from your vet on each, and it's always a good idea to ask
for a vet recommendation. Frontline comes in drop form - you put it on the
back of your cat's neck. You can't get the animal wet for a few days (which
isn't as big a problem with cats). You can only use it after the recommended
age limit, which is about 8 weeks, and you should definitely adhere to this.
Frontline will essentially kill adult fleas as they get onto your cat. You
need this because cats will pick up adult fleas from multiple sources - even
from you, surprisingly, as even an indoor cat can get eggs or fleas that brush
onto you when you come in contact with another person's pet. If your house is
already infested, you should try a few other things. Don't let your cat
outdoors - that's the biggest source of new fleas, and it's dangerous for your
cat to go outside anyway because of cars and other general threats. Vacuum
frequently, and wash all bedding that your cat comes in contact with in hot
water. This will cut down on the flea eggs and larvae, and this or
another flea medicine will kill the adults. Over the course of a few weeks,
your flea problem will go away.
Dosing Information: As with any flea
control product, you need to weigh your pet first to figure out which version
of Frontline to buy, because they are sold according to pet weight. The
categories for dogs are:
under 22 pounds,
23-44 pounds
,
45-88 pounds
,
and
89-132 pounds
.
For cats, there isn't much weight variation and so there is
only one product
version for you to worry about.
