Frontline Plus for a Small Dog
If you've got a smaller dog, or one that doesn't weigh very much, you'll need a different dosage for your flea medicine. Luckily, Frontline comes in many different doses, and there are flea control products available from them for specific sizes of dog. Frontline Plus in a smaller size will give you all the power of their flea control in a dose that is acceptable for an animal that doesn't weigh as much. You don't want to overdo it and get too much medicine in their system, so it's always best to make sure that what you're purchasing is within the weight limits for your pet. Weigh your pet before making the purchase - it's actually pretty easy, just get on a scale, find your weight, and then weigh yourself holding your pet. If you don't have scale, you can usually estimate - a medium sized house cat will weigh from 10-15 pounds, so compare your dog to a cat (many of the brands are designed for a certain number of pounds and under, so you can be pretty general).

Frontline is a pretty good flea medicine brand. It's designed to kill off the fleas as the get on your animal and move around, and it does a good job of it (getting over 99% of fleas usually). You'll sometimes have to do something else regardless of the flea control product you pick - vacuuming, cleaning you dog's bed, and other methods are good for supplementing the flea medicine. There are also some other ones you can take a look at (Advantage, Program, etc.) that have various other features. Frontline is good because it kills ticks as well as fleas, and because they weigh it by dog size it will give you a good product that is tailored to the weight of your pet. You'll need to apply it once every couple of months (more frequently if you're relying on it for tick control - sadly, it's harder to kill ticks, so you'll need to give them the medicine more often to keep it in their system).
Dosing Information: As with any flea control product, you need to
weigh your pet first to figure out which version of Frontline to buy, because
they are sold according to pet weight. The categories for dogs are:
under 22 pounds,
23-44 pounds
,
45-88 pounds
,
and
89-132 pounds
.
For cats, there isn't much weight variation and so there is
only one product
version for you to worry about.
