How much do cats sleep a day?
Cats are one of the animals that sleeps the most out of the day. They average around 15 hours of sleep a day, and sleep roughly two thirds of their lives. The only two animals that beat them are bats and possums. Cats are usually not in deep sleep - they are only taking cat naps. The phrase comes from the light sleep that cats are usually in. This is a defense mechanism against predators - your cat is still alert enough that it will wake up immediately to sudden noises and will probably hear you trying to sneak up on it.
