Joint Max DS
Jointmax Double Strength is an arthritis supplement given to pets for cat arthritis and for dog arthritis. It comes in the form of a chewable tablet. The chewables are flavored, so most pets will eat them pretty readily. It is basically a nutritional supplement and not a drug - it relies on giving pets several molecules that exist in the body anyway and are critical to the health of the pet's joints.
How does it work?
Joint Max is a joint supplement that works using glucosamine and chondroitin. These are molecules that occur naturally in the body and Glucosamine is a sugar, and it helps the body form and repair cartilage. Chondroitin is a protein that makes cartilage more elastic. These are both used in many arthritis medicines for people as well. Basically, they help your pet naturally make its joints more healthy and less painful to move by supplementing the molecules the body uses to repair its joints.
It also includes several generally good nutrients such as Vitamin C and zinc, although these are more for the general health of the pet than the joints in particular.
Are there side effects?
No - these two molecules are already in your pet's body. There are no reported side effects outside of minor indigestion if the chewables don't agree with your dog or cat. One thing you should know is that some humans with sea food allergies have reported problems with glucosamine in supplements (because it is often taken from shellfish). But I haven't heard of this in pets.
Where can I get it?
For smaller dogs or for cats, you should use regular strength Jointmax. You can get it online here:
